Recycling Carpet to Energy

Unique Process Helps Reduce
Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Sands is proud to participate in the first carpet reclamation program in Canada that takes non-PVC* carpets and combines them with municipal waste to produce industrial fuel pellets, an alternate energy source for coal.

Just think, the next time you say "Pass the ketchup", those tomatoes may have grown in a greenhouse heated by your recycled carpet.

In an approved conversion facility with state of the art equipment selected from global best-in-class vendors, used carpet is converted to fuel pellets. Environmental controls virtually eliminate impact on the area surrounding the conversion facility.

The fuel pellets are approved for industrial commercial use only, in facilities that have received a special permit to burn this fuel source.

These fuel pellets have been shown to emit less greenhouse gas (carbon dioxide) upon burning than conventional fossil fuels. Plus there is a carbon credit for diversion from landfill.

To date, Sands has diverted 144,000 pounds of carpet from landfill.

Contact us if you would have carpet to contribute to this recycling effort.

Sands. It's the total package. And a winning formula.

* PVC is Polyvinylchloride. For carpet to be suitable for this recycling program, the carpet cannot contain PVC.
